There has been a lot of talk about the funding crisis facing the Social Care sector.  However, as leaders of your organisation, a significant fear is that there are many different crisis situations you may face that, if not managed well, could cause lasting damage to your business.  

From a high-profile death in service to allegations of abuse, serial complainants pursuing an online campaign against you, a financially unsustainable contract or some high-profile litigation that threatens your viability.

The abuse at Mendip House and the recent Oxfam scandal are the latest high-profile examples of crisis situations.

Our Chief Executive’s update briefing this year will focus on updating you on legal developments which will enhance your abilities to lead through a crisis.

Why should you attend?

Our team of experts will guide you through a workshop that will explore the way you can respond to some of the potential crises you may face and the key legal principles that it will help to have at the forefront of your mind when managing a crisis. 

The workshop will work through scenarios based on real-life situations and build your awareness of:

  • The legal framework for dealing with damaging online content and your responses on social media
  • Dealing with whistle-blowing at a senior level
  • Your obligations to commissioners, the CQC and  other key stakeholders when serious abuse is alleged to have taken place
  • Managing disputes and significant debt recovery
  • Getting the governance right in a crisis

Huw John, Chief Executive of The Camphill Village Trust will share some personal observations on leading the charity through a sustained media and high-profile litigation campaign against the leadership and governance in response to necessary changes.


Registration is at 9.30 am for a 10.00 am start, and the session will finish with lunch at 13.30 pm.

Course Cancellation

If you wish to cancel your place on this event the following provisions apply:


Your place may be transferred to another person free of charge, as long as you let us know as soon as possible and at least 48 hours before the event.  You will need to provide us with contact details for the substitute person so that we can send them booking and venue details.

Full Cancellations

If you cancel your place on the training without transfer it to another person, the following provisions will apply:

  • If you cancel your place within 72 hours of the training day, you will receive no refund.


When payment has been made by debit/credit card, the relevant amount will be refunded to your card. When payment has been made by cheque or BACS, refunds will be made by BACS. Refunds can no longer be supplied by cheque.
